If a student is absent from school, he/she must bring a note from home or a doctor’s note within three (3) days of an absence to the attendance office.

  1. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange with the teacher to make up work missed during an excused absence.  Arrangements to do so must be made immediately upon returning to that class.  Assignments due on the day of the absence will be due on the day the student returns to that class.
  2. A parent note will only be accepted for three absences per each nine week period. An absence is defined as a day or consecutive days absent from school. After the third absence a doctor’s note will be required in order for the absence to be considered excused. Parents may meet with the principal in extenuating circumstances.
  3. Work cannot be made up for unexcused absences except for nine week and semester tests which may be made up at the discretion of the principal.  Out-of-school suspension is treated as an unexcused absence.
  4. Work completed during an in-school suspension will be accepted and proper credit given.
  5. Make-up work:  Students are given the number of days absent from school plus one (1) in normal situation to complete make-up work for class. However, if an assignment date has already been given to the class or an assignment is due on the day of the student’s return, the teacher may request the completed assignment at that time.


Dress and Appearance for Students

Appropriate School Dress:

  •   does not create a disturbance or distraction;
  •   is not sexually explicit;
  •   is not pornographic
  •   is not tobacco, alcohol, drug or gang related;
  •   does not contain obscenities;
  •   does not contain gang symbols;
  •   is not offensive or inflammatory to other groups or individuals;
  •   does not create a safety hazard; and
  •   does not damage school property.


Gym Shorts are only to be worn in the gym

Clothing that is not in compliance with the dress code includes:

  •   pants that fall below the waistline (resulting in sagging & dragging);
  •   boxer or soccer-type shorts and biker pants;
  •   see-through clothing, underclothing or pajamas worn as an outer garment; if sheer clothing is worn, the garment underneath should meet the dress code;
  •   shorts, dresses, skorts, skirts that are shorter than the knee (slits in these articles of clothing should not be shorter than the knee) – decisions on lengths of these items will be at discretion of the administration (there will be no negotiating);
  •   clothes bearing suggestive slogans, advertising alcoholic beverages or tobacco products;
  •   baggy clothes, tank tops, cut out sleeves, spaghetti straps, plunging necklines (the showing of cleavage is not allowed), extremely tight garments “with or without pockets”, tops that are not shoulder width, shirts that will not remain tucked in when seated and allows midriff and/or back area to be exposed;
  •   jeans or other clothing with holes above the knee in them
  •   body piercing jewelry other than earrings in ears; If a student has a piercing that requires special care they need to see school administration.
  •   headgear worn while at school; caps, hats, rags, bandanas, etc. Special permission may be made due to cold weather.
  •   armbands, wristbands, belts, necklaces or other items with metal or sharp projections; chains, including wallet chains;
  •   any clothing worn as a gang symbol.


To avoid distractions from the instructional program and to promote the health and safety of all students at PSHS, every student should be fully clothed, clean, and well-groomed.


A student found to be in violation of the dress code will be required to change the article of clothing according to PSHS Dress Code Policy.  The violation will be documented and the parent will be notified.  If the parent cannot be contacted for purposes of enabling the student to conform to the dress code, the student will be placed in the in-school suspension program for the remainder of the day.  The first offense will be excused.  Further offenses will result in unexcused absences from class(s), detention and/or suspension.

Unauthorized Items

Tumblers/ Yeti cups are not to be brought on campus, only clear plastic containers, containing water are permitted.


Students are not to have “fast food” delivered to them at school.  If it is found that students have left campus during lunch without the principal’s or designee’s approval, even with parent permission, this will be grounds for disciplinary action to include revoking driving privileges for a specified time.  Only a parent or legal guardian may sign out a student by written note, fax, or in person.  No phone calls will be accepted for signing students out of school as per district policy.


At no time should there be any food or drinks in the hallway or classrooms. The only exception to this would be classroom sponsored events.

Vehicles & Parking Rules

All student drivers must park in the designated student parking area. Students driving motor vehicles to school must have a valid driver’s license and must park the vehicle in the approved student parking spaces.  Students are not to sit in parked cars after arriving on campus.  Cars are not to be moved during the school day without administrative approval.  All cars should be locked after arriving in the morning.


Student drivers that are habitually late will have their driving privileges revoked or suspended.  Once a driver acquires 8 unexcused 1st period tardies in a semester they may have their driving and parking privileges suspended or revoked for an appropriate amount of time as determined by the school’s administration.
